Many organisations with large maintenance departments or service teams on the road still have a huge potential to increase efficiency of their maintenance teams. SW vendors like SAP offer mature packages for asset, maintenance and service management allowing technicians to get their work orders via mobile devices and allowing managers to change priorities during the day on an interactive planning board. The result is that time lost going from machine to machine or waiting for spare parts or colleagues to arrive is reduced considerably. This can increase value added time by 30% or more.
Pictures of incidents taken by mobile devices and better registration per functional location will give better data for analysis. This is a primary condition for reliability based maintenance. Better warehouse management by using the scanning tool of the mobile devises may be an additional benefit. Predictive maintenance, artificial intelligence and augmented reality can help increase productivity even more. Using such tools and working methods may lead to higher job satisfaction and retention of scarce and specialised maintenance technicians.
